Speronari Suites - A hidden gem in the heart of Milan.

Speronari Suites offers the perfect blend of glamorous vibes paired with a cosmopolitan ambiance. Originally from the mid-19th century, this six-level boutique hotel opened in 2019 with 22 suite-only rooms, a SoulSauna by Finnish experts Starpool, and a fitness center with Technogym equipment. Angus Fiori Architects and interior designer Francesca Attolini created a contemporary Italian design that has become an exclusive destination for luxury in the heart of Milan. Just outside is the famous Duomo Cathedral and Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, Italy's oldest shopping gallery. Charming boho streets line the former artisan neighborhood for a cozy welcome among the bakeries and restaurants. El Porteno is an acclaimed bistro within Speronari Suites that offers a gourmet culinary experience complete with chef-inspired cuisines of ethnic flavors along with prestigious white and red labels.

Room Review

1st Night

The first night in the Double Deluxe was immaculate with lovely furnishings, including a desk and sitting area, ideal for remote workers. There was a delightful view of the church of Santa Maria at San Satiro. While the bed was comfortable, it was somewhat hard. Plus, there were no bathrobes available nor a Nespresso machine, but bathroom products from Ortigia Sicilia are complimentary.

2nd Night

The second night in the Duplex Suite proved to be the star suite of the hotel. With two floors, this space offers a luxury apartment feel. The modern design has a retro flair; a yellow velvet couch pops on the wooden backdrop. The high-end decor from designers like Tom Dixon makes the spacious room, complete with a Nespresso machine, an Instagram-worthy area.

If you want to stay in the city longer, this Duplex Suite is like a second home. The first floor has a main bathroom, living room with TV, and a charming patio overlooking the tranquil courtyard (instead of a busy street). A bedroom (with a firmer bed), a separate sitting area, and another bathroom are on the second floor. Comfy bathrobes, Ortigia Sicilia bathroom products, and the luxury design create an elegant yet comfortable place to escape after exploring Milan.

3rd Night

The third night in the Executive Terrace offered the best of both worlds, with the only room to have a large terrace. Take advantage of the designer sitting area, plush bathrobes, and handy Nespresso machine within this spacious one-level 32 sq m / 344 sq ft suite. Located on the fourth floor, the room faces the main street and church, with exquisite views of the beautiful bell tower. You can sip on prosecco on a comfy chair as you enjoy the city sounds from your terrace. The modern suite has soundproof doors that allow you to shut out the noise when it is time to rest.

Our Recommendation

Our favorite was the Duplex Suite. The Duplex Suite offers luxe furnishings within a spacious setting, perfect for remote workers during an extended stay. The Executive Suite is ideal if you want outdoor space without having to leave the property. Finally, we recommend the Deluxe Suite for those seeking elite comfort in downtown Milan.

Breakfast, Bar, and Restaurant Review

El Porteno is a gourmet restaurant located on the ground floor of Speronari Suites. Angus Fiori Architects made a masterpiece, complete with vintage charm. The red velvet curtains and classic Argentinian interior design create a romantic atmosphere, perfect for a date night. This renowned restaurant even serves breakfast. There is also a bar located inside and a stunning wine display. Indoor and outdoor seating is available; the friendly staff opens the doors during the day with lovely views of the cosy street.

Breakfast Review

There was not an extensive menu, but between 8 am - 11 am, you can get a good range of options featuring high-quality ingredients. Freshly baked pastries were available from the next-door bakery, as well as an assortment of yogurts, juices, fruits (the best melon ever!), hams, salamis, cheeses, scrambled eggs, and bacon. The Italian coffee did not disappoint and was simply amazing. The friendly staff and great atmosphere made it a noteworthy breakfast.

Dinner Review

You will want to book your reservation in advance for this popular spot. At night, the restaurant fills up, and they dim the lights for a romantic atmosphere. A friendly server sat us immediately in a cosy corner with views of the kitchen and a unique wine cellar. The menu had a nice variety without being overwhelming, but the knowledgeable staff could provide recommendations as well. You can expect prime quality food and a mecca for meat lovers.

Final Thoughts

Are you longing for a romantic escape or a trip with close friends? The Speronari Suites is a quiet, serene spot that still offers a vibrant atmosphere, close to high-end shops like Gucci, Prada, Dior, and more. Being close to significant landmarks is a huge plus because you can walk everywhere. However, it is super easy to jump in a taxi if you want to travel to another area in Milan. With eight different suites to choose from, everyone will fall in love with at least one of these beautifully designed rooms. We highly recommend staying here -- and can't wait to come back!
